Commonwealth Home Support Programme

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) provides entry-level support to assist older people in their homes. Eligibility for CHSP is based on your support needs and age. Your financial situation doesn't affect your eligibility. To be eligible for the CHSP program you must be.

  • Aged 65 years and over (50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), or
  • 50 years or older (45 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and on a low income, homeless, or at risk of being homeless.

Completing everyday tasks can become more difficult as you age, and we all need a little help from time to time around the home. If you qualify for CHSP, our caring staff can help.

We work with you, as opposed to doing things for you, so that you can maintain your independence. It’s your care, your way.

We are able to offer flexible Respite, Personal Care and Domestic Assistance under CHSP in the New England Region including Tamworth, Moree, Gunnedah, Glen Innes, Quirindi, Armidale, Warialda, Inverell and Quirindi. Please contact us on 1300 826 219 to learn more about how we can assist you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is eligible to receive CHSP funding?

Eligibility for CHSP funding is based on being an older Australian aged 65 years and above (or 50 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and having specific needs for support to live independently at home.

  • What’s the difference between CHSP and Home Care Packages?

The main difference between CHSP and Home Care Packages is the level of care and support provided. CHSP offers basic entry-level support services to help older Australians maintain their independence at home. Home Care Packages, on the other hand, offer a higher level of support, tailored to individual needs, and can include a range of services such as personal care, nursing care and assistance with complex needs. Home Care Packages provide more comprehensive and flexible support options compared to CHSP.

  • Who pays for CHSP services?

CHSP services are jointly funded by the Australian government and contributions from individuals receiving the services. The government provides funding for CHSP programs, and individuals may be asked to contribute towards the cost based on their income and ability to pay.

  • How do I know if CHSP is right for me?

To determine if CHSP is suitable for you, contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. They will guide you through an assessment process to evaluate your needs and recommend the appropriate level of support. They can also provide information on other aged care options if CHSP is not the best fit for you.
